Purpose: The ASSMFT is the entity which organises, administers, promotes and runs the annual KBB Music Festival. The KBB Music Festival is New Zealand's largest music festival for large instrumental ensembles, including Jazz Bands, Concert Bands, Chamber Orchestras and Symphony Orchestras. The KBB Music Festival is a week long event consisting of several days of adjudicated performances when ensembles perform in professional venues to and audience of their peers; all ensembles receive written feedback from the adjudicators and competitive groups are eligible for awards and the chance to perform in one of the public Gala Concerts held at the end of the week. The ASSMFT also provides a variety of development opportunities for both student musicians and music teachers.
